A Level Computer Science

Students who have a keen interest in the way in which computing technology works at a fundamental level. It is also aimed at students who have an interest in programming and like to solve complex problems. The aims of this qualification are to enable learners to develop an understanding and ability to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including: abstraction,
decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation

This is an academic course which comprises of 2 written exams at the end of Year 13 and a practical programming project (in the programming language of their choosing). Within this qualification there is great emphasis upon: problem solving using computers, computer programming using algorithms, and mathematical skills used to express computational laws and processes, e.g. Boolean algebra/logic and comparison of the complexity of algorithms.

How are you assessed?

Two 2hrs 30 mins Written Exam plus a programming project.
