Food Preparation & Nutrition

Staple foods around the world - During this module students will be cooking several products to develop their practical skills. They will complete a number of tasks to increase their knowledge of culture, nutrition, science, and healthy diets. Towards the end of the module they will produce a multicultural dish that fulfils the module task.  

Food Science and the Functions of Ingredients-During this module students will be cooking several products to develop their practical skills. They will complete a number of tasks to increase their knowledge of nutrition, science, and healthy diets. Towards the end of the module they will create a product which is nutritionally balanced and show an understanding of the functions of all ingredients.

Textiles

Students will complete a number tasks to increase their knowledge of materials and develop their practical skills. Their main focus will be seams, embellishments, fabrics and shaping fabrics. They will utilise their skills by designing and making a skirt and a child’s dress.

Skirt- During this module students will be learning about designing for manufacturing and the main commercial processes that are used by manufacturers. Students will continue to develop their practical skills by making a skirt and will use Computer Aided Design to produce their own logo.

Childs Dress- During this module students will design and make a dress for a child using a pillowcase. This supports the ‘Dress a Girl Around the World’ campaign which has been bringing dignity to women and children around the world since 2006. Students will be continuing to develop the practical skills both on the sewing machine and by hand.
